Welcome to our first edition of The Botanical Observer. This is a seasonal magazine that highlights the beauty of nature in city settings and stories about our community. The spark of inspiration for this magazine came from a few different places: A television show I watch regularly, poetry classes I take, and a desire to rewind “marketing” back a bit and slow things down. Instead of bombarding you with in-your-face park information and scrolling through social media, I wanted to provide something interesting to read. I envision you all sitting down with your morning coffee or a glass of wine after dinner and taking time to read something inviting and uplifting about your city. Something beautiful to look at that inspires you, makes you laugh or reflect on your own memories, and also teaches you something new. All of this, of course, revolves around nature and our parks. I want to highlight folks in the community and share the history of our city’s greenspaces. My hope is that this magazine will become a staple of your reading collection or maybe the start of it. That being said, take pause, grab a beverage, get comfortable, and begin your journey through The Botanical Observer.
Enjoy!
