A Skatepark That Never Stops Growing.

Build a community DIY skate park with the City of Syracuse at Kirk Park.

Transform 3 of the nine unused tennis courts into a creative skate hub. There will be community outreach design meetings with a professional community engagement specialist. They will help communicate how the relationship with the city, parks and rec works. After defining what features the community wants, we will work with local designers and skate boarders to develop engineered drawings of cement features to be built over the summer of 2026 on. Every year we will hold design meetings to figure out what the next features would be until we run out of space.

This space will also host building workshops focused on construction techniques, cement working, and skate design logic. There will be hands-on building workshops including volunteer community members from all backgrounds. We also hope to have musical events that will feature local musical acts and have food trucks. Skateboarding can act as a connection that links exercise, creativity, socializing, and community

building all in one.

Currently negotiating the after school/summer skate program with a trained instructor/monitor to allow youth from the community center and surrounding neighborhood to use donated skateboards and equipment in the Kirk Park DIY skatepark. Anyone can check out a skateboard, safety equipment and use it in the skating area.

The ramp from the Everson exhibition “Dead End” will be installed in the tennis courts at Kirk park. We plan to will fundraise/donate materials to extend the ramp 16’ and build a small halfpipe.

THE VISION & INSPIRATION

After school or summer program specifically for skateboarding. This would be an all ages first come first serve situation where anyone could come to the community center

and check out a skateboard helmet and pads to use at the Kirk Park DIY. We would have a skateboarder monitoring/light-instruction there at all times when the skateboards are available to be checked out.

Every weekday and twice a month there will be an instructor/monitor to allow youth from the community center and surrounding neighborhood to use donated skateboards and equipment in the Kirk Park DIY skatepark. Anyone can check out a skateboard and use it in the skating area.
