How The Botanical Observer was born.

The Botanical Observer is a seasonal digital magazine celebrating Syracuse’s parks, nature, history, and community stories.

Created by the Syracuse Parks Conservancy, each issue invites readers to slow down, explore local green spaces, and reconnect with the stories that shape our city — from neighborhood memories and park history to nature, conservation, and community voices.

Grab a cup of coffee, get comfortable, and enjoy stories rooted in Syracuse.

Have a story to share?

We’re always looking for community memories, park stories, photography, local history, poetry, and nature-inspired writing connected to Syracuse and its green spaces.

Submit your story and help preserve the voices and memories that make our parks special.

Help us get The Botanical Observer Printed

We love that The Botanical Observer can be shared digitally with readers everywhere — connecting our community through stories of nature, parks, and Syracuse history. But we’ve always dreamed of bringing these pages beyond the screen and onto coffee tables throughout our community.

With your support, we can turn that dream into reality and create a beautifully printed publication to inspire readers for years to come.
