Neighborhood Greening Grants

The Syracuse Parks Conservancy (SPC) believes that well-kept community spaces contribute to the life and vitality of neighborhoods. By taking care of our neighborhood environment, we create places where residents can gather and interact, thus strengthening the neighborhood’s social fabric and improving its quality of life.

In cooperation with the Central New York Community Foundation and the Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Programs, the Neighborhood Greening Grants Program awards up to $2000 in grants to support small, targeted initiatives that provide resources, training and support to organizations that work to improve their communities through park and recreation center stewardship. SPC especially encourages initiatives that are planned and implemented primarily by neighborhood/community-based groups led by local area residents.

2024 Greening Grant Recipients

Alchemical Nursery Project

The Alchemical Nursery Project installed approximately 120’ of cedar fencing around The Bike Depot and it looks great! As the pictures indicate the fence does not go around the entire property, which was not our goal but it does enhance the look of the property in addition to making The Bike Depot more visible from the road, which was an unexpected benefit. It also gives us a place to hang signs not only information about the Bike Depot but other neighborhood events.

RISE

The project occurred at 2 community garden sites on the Northside of Syracuse. This project involved the building of wooden fences
surrounding each garden. This will improve the neighborhood and community environment by
keeping the gardens cleaner, helping gardeners to feel safe while working at the gardens, keeping out pets and pests to shelter the produce growing in the gardens, and by contributing to the beautification of the area with native plants planted along the fence line.
